This 2-day course is an overview of management strategies medical surgical nurses use to promote quality of life for clients and their significant others.  The program will provide those taking the medical surgical certification exam with information necessary for success and will include practice exam questions and review.  For those not taking the exam, the course will provide an excellent refresher of body systems and interventions commonly seen in medical surgical nursing.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

• List assessment priorities, common medical diagnoses and nursing interventions used with disorders of all body systems; cardiovascular, respiratory, gastrointestinal, renal, musculoskeletal, neurological, Integument, hematological, genitourinary and endocrine
• Discuss methods to effectively manage pain
• Discuss basic concepts in the care of patients with cancer
• Describe the most common professional issues for the practice of Medical-Surgical Nursing
• Differentiate between the AMSN and ANCC certification exams
• Utilize test taking strategies during certification exams
• Utilize content to answer practice exam questions and reacquaint learner with testing situation
• Reinforce learning from lecture and exam content.

TRAINING DESCRIPTION AND MATERIALS

This course is instructor led, using handouts for support. This course will use lecture, hands-on application, class discussion, and class exercises to deliver course objectives.

HOURS

Your Medical Surgical Certification Review Course and Medical Surgical Nursing Overview course is a 16-hour training activity, scheduled at your convenience for up to a maximum of 15 participants.  1.6 IACET CEU’s will be awarded upon successful completion of the course.  Pricing included training administration, instruction, class handouts and materials, consumables, and an activity evaluation at the conclusion of training.
