Students spent the morning listening to talks from speakers including Ivy Tech President Thomas J. Snyder, Speaker of the House Patrick Bauer, Supreme Court Justice Frank Sullivan Jr. and Secretary of State Todd Rokita. Afterward, students joined by more than 40 legislators for a luncheon in the Statehouse Rotunda. Students then had the opportunity to take tours of the Statehouse and sit in on sessions in the viewing galleries.
Ivy Tech has coordinated a Day at the Legislature for the last ten years and has seen more participants this year than in any previous year—approximately 200 more than last year—most of whom have never been to the Statehouse. Students were encouraged to have questions ready to ask their legislators and many discussed concerns especially relevant to Ivy Tech students.
