Sometimes the array of degrees and titles can be confusing, so very briefly let’s discuss types of degrees. A student completing a curriculum of one year duration earns a technical certificate. Two years of full-time course work may culminate in an Associate’s of Applied Science Degree (the AAS) or the Associate’s of Science (the AS). The AS degree is the primary transferable degree although several of Ivy Tech’s partner institutions also accept the AAS. Usually, the main difference between the two associate’s degrees is the AS will require more general education courses and fewer technical courses. Finally, if the student transfers to a four-year institution, they will earn either a Bachelor’s of Science (the BS) or a Bachelor’s of Arts (the BA).
